At a rally for the ruling Zanu-PF party in Zimbabwe the wife of president Robert Mugabe praised her 91-yearold husband. “One day when God decides that Mugabe dies, we will have his corpse appear as a candidate,” she claimed. Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe, often with an iron fist, since Zanu-PF won elections in 1980 and he became prime minister. He joins many other long-serving leaders that dominated the 20th and early 21st century, such as Fidel Castro, Angola’s Jose Eduardo Dos Santos and Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Northern Illinois vs Toledo

Northern Illinois vs Toledo:An important MAC showdown awaits Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET when the Toledo Rockets visit the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Huskies are three-point favorites and the over-under for total points scored is 55.5 in the latest Northern Illinois vs. Toledo odds. Those lines have been wiggling around a bit, with Northern Illinois originally opening as a 2.5-point favorite and the total opening at 54.5. With weeknight MACtion on tap, you’ll definitely want to check out the up-to-the-minute projections from the advanced computer model at SportsLine before making your Northern Illinois vs. Toledo picks and predictions.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times, and those who have followed it have seen massive returns. Over the past three years, this proprietary computer model has generated a jaw-dropping $4,210 profit for $100 bettors on its top-rated point-spread picks.

And in Week 10, it absolutely nailed the biggest game of the season, recommending the Crimson Tide against the spread (-14), on the money line (-588) and hitting the Under in Alabama’s 29-0 blowout of LSU. It also nailed its top-rated selection of Auburn (-3.5) over Texas A&M, helping the model finish the weekend on a strong 7-3 run on all top-rated picks. Anyone who has followed it is way up.

Now, the model has crunched the numbers for Northern Illinois vs. Toledo, and the results are in. We can tell you the model is leaning Over, and it has also locked in a strong point-spread selection that hits in well over 50 percent of simulations. You can only see that pick at SportsLine.

For Northern Illinois vs. Toledo, the model is well aware of how brutal of a schedule the Huskies have played and how well it has prepared them for MAC play. They put Iowa, Utah and Florida State on their non-conference slate. While they lost all three of those, it’s paid off in the long-run.

Northern Illinois has won five straight, with four conference victories and a road win over BYU. NIU’s defense has been playing very well during the winning streak, allowing just 18.4 points per game with star edge rusher Sutton Smith leading the way.

However, don’t assume that makes Northern Illinois an easy call against the spread.

The MAC West has come down to these two teams regularly over the last decade and Toledo has actually gotten the best of Northern Illinois in each of their last two meetings. This year, it should be a matchup of strength on strength with Toledo’s offense humming ahead of Wednesday night’s game.

In consecutive MAC wins, the Rockets have outscored opponents 96-37 and are averaging 523 yards of offense. And they’ve done that without starting quarterback Mitchell Guadagni, who was injured early in the Western Michigan game.

The Rockets have dominated with perfect balance, throwing the ball 67 times and running it 73 times in those two games. If they can use backup quarterback Eli Peters and their rushing attack to keep Northern Illinois on its heels defensively, they’ll have a chance to cover on the road

Packers vs Chargers Preview
The Packers enter this game as one of the hottest teams in the NFL. They’ve won four in a row, and their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, has been playing lights out. The Packers are in first place in a very competitive NFC North division, and their only loss came at home against the Eagles over a month ago.

On offense, Green Bay is averaging almost 27 points a game. Their defense has been a mixed bag this year, however. The Packers are surrendering just over 20 points a game, but they have been prone to numerous errors in their secondary, giving up 251.8 yards passing a game this year.

This could bode well for Rivers, who should get his shots against this secondary. He will be working with a new offensive coordinator for the first time in years, however. The Chargers fired offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt this week, and quarterbacks coach Shane Steichen will take over play-calling duties. Whether this will help their current offensive woes remains to be seen.

On defense, Joey Bosa has been the star for L.A. Bosa had two sacks last week against the Chicago Bears, and hehas seven on the season. If he and the rest of the Chargers defense can play elevated ball this week, they could make this a close game.

packers vs chargers

packers vs chargers:The Packers will try to build on their success out West when Green Bay visits the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The Packers lead the all-time series 10-1 and have won seven in a row against the Chargers. They’re also 16-3 against AFC West teams since 2002. Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has improvised to lead Green Bay to four straight wins, relying on the running game or a bevy of receivers depending on the opposition. Last week, he counted on Aaron Jones’ receiving skills, and the running back caught seven passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-24 victory at Kansas City. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET. Green Bay is a four-point favorite, up one from the opener, while the Over-Under for total points scored is 48.5 in the latest Packers vs. Chargers odds. Before you make any Chargers vs. Packers picks and NFL predictions, you should see what SportsLine’s resident Green Bay expert, R.J. White, has to say.

White has been SportsLine’s top pro football analyst for two-plus seasons. Over that span, the CBS Sports NFL editor and nationally-recognized NFL Draft expert has gone 265-218-22 on NFL against the spread picks, returning $2,335 to $100 players.

The stats guru, whose picks are coveted by fans everywhere, has hit it big in the world’s most prestigious handicapping tournament, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest, twice in the past four years. More importantly, he has had a particularly keen eye for the Packers. In fact, he has hit 29 of his last 34 picks involving Green Bay, and anyone who has followed him is way up.

Now, White has locked in on Packers vs. Chargers on Sunday, and he’s sharing his strong NFL picks only at SportsLine.

White knows Jones totaled 236 yards against Kansas City and leads Green Bay with 34 receptions this season. Rodgers has turned to various receivers with top option Davante Adams out with a toe injury, but he’s questionable and could return this week. Marquez Valdes-Scantling has a team-high 420 receiving yards on 22 catches with two touchdowns. Tight end Jimmy Graham also has been reliable, with 21 grabs for 234 yards and three TDs.

The Packers are plus-seven in turnover margin and have 13 takeaways. Cornerback Kevin King has three interceptions and eight passes defended, while Jaire Alexander has knocked down 11 passes. Linebackers Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith have combined for 15 of the team’s 20 sacks, while Blake Martinez leads the league with 83 tackles despite playing through a fractured hand.

But just because Green Bay has found balance on offense doesn’t mean it will cover the Chargers vs. Packers spread on Sunday.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers can still make plays, with L.A. ranking sixth in the league in passing at 281.1 yards per game. His favorite target is veteran Keenan Allen, who has 51 catches for 617 yards and three touchdowns.

The Chargers are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games in November, and the defense will need to step up this week. Defensive end Joey Bosa is a dominant force, posting seven sacks and 37 pressures, and he is second on the team with 42 tackles. Veteran linebacker Thomas Davis, in his first year with the Chargers after 13 seasons in Carolina, leads the team with 61 tackles.

White has analyzed this matchup, and while we can tell you he’s leaning Over, he has discovered a crucial x-factor that makes one side of the spread a must-back. He’s sharing it only at SportsLine

Here’s what you need to know to watch the Jaguars take on the Jets:

Who: Green Bay Packers vs. Los Angeles Chargers

What: NFL regular season, Week 9

When: Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019

Time: 1:25 p.m. PT/4:25 p.m. ET

Where: Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, CA

TV: CBS, DirecTV

Green Bay (7-1) started their run with strong defensive performances early in the season. Now, the offense is clicking with quarterback Aaron Rodgers playing at a MVP level. However, it’s the Packers run game that features the combination of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams that has elevated the Packers’ offense. Jones is dangerous as a runner or a receiver coming out of the backfield, he had 159 yards and two touchdowns receiving in the win against Kansas City in Week 8.

The Chargers (3-5) defeated the Chicago Bears in Week 8 to snap a three-game losing streak, but the win didn’t save offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, who was fired this week. The Chargers are averaging 19.1 points a game and averaging 69.5 yards rushing yards a game, despite the return of running back Melvin Gordon.

Oakland dropped its last game 27–24 to the Texans. Jon Gruden’s team led 21–13 after three quarters, but could not hold on despite quarterback Derek Carr playing his best game of the season. Carr went for 285 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He’ll need to be effective to get the Raiders back to .500 after this game. The Raiders went a respectable 2–3 in their five straight games away from Oakland, and the team will have five of its final nine games at home.

Detroit took advantage of one of the league’s most suspect defenses in its last game, defeating the New York Giants 31–26. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Matt Patricia’s team, with Matthew Stafford throwing for 342 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. The Lions gave up 322 passing yards and four touchdowns to rookie quarterback Daniel Jones in that game, though, and will need to be careful not to let Carr have similar success.

The Green Bay Packers gave the rest of the NFL its first true glimpse of what Matt LaFleur’s offense can look like with Aaron Rodgers at the helm. And it was scary.

Rodgers had his best game by far under the new Packers coach, throwing for 429 yards and five touchdowns and running for another as Green Bay beat the Oakland Raiders 42-24 on Sunday.

Rodgers completed 25 of 31 passes to eight different targets and finished with the first perfect passer rating of his career, leading LaFleur’s offense to a season high in points.

Who’s Playing

Oakland (home) vs. Detroit (away)

Current Records: Oakland 3-4; Detroit 3-3-1

What to Know

After two games on the road, Oakland is heading back home. They will take on Detroit at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday at RingCentral Coliseum. The Raiders are expected to win — but not by much — so they will need to come into the contest prepared for a fight.

Oakland was hampered by 85 penalty yards against Houston last week. It was a hard-fought game, but the Raiders had to settle for a 27-24 loss against Houston. A silver lining for Oakland was the play of QB Derek Carr, who passed for 285 yards and three TDs on 30 attempts. Carr’s 65-yard touchdown toss up the middle to WR Hunter Renfrow in the first quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the evening. Carr’s sharp evening set his single-game touchdown high for the season.

Meanwhile, Detroit didn’t have too much breathing room in their matchup with the Giants, but they still walked away with a 31-26 win. WR Kenny Golladay and QB Matthew Stafford were among the main playmakers for Detroit as the former caught six passes for 123 yards and two TDs and the latter passed for 342 yards and three TDs on 32 attempts. Golladay’s performance made up for a slower contest against Minnesota two weeks ago. Golladay has never finished with more yards this season.

Detroit’s victory lifted them to 3-3-1 while Oakland’s defeat dropped them down to 3-4. A couple defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: The Raiders are third worst in the league in passing touchdowns allowed, with 19 on the season. The Lions have experienced some defensive struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the game with the most passing yards allowed per game in the NFL, having given up 302.6 on average. Look for both offensives to try attacking early to give their own defense a break.

The Raiders (3-4) are coming off a 27-24 loss to the Houston Texans, their second consecutive loss. The Raiders are playing their first home game in Oakland since Week 2 (September 15) after spending more than a month playing games on the road. The Raiders will rely on their rushing attack, which averages 131.4 yards a game, seventh in the NFL. Rookie running back Josh Jacobs is sixth in the league with 620 rushing yards.

Buccaneers vs Seahawks Live

Buccaneers vs Seahawks Live:Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks have made a habit of winning close games this season. They are 5-1 in games decided by seven points or less. The Seahawks wouldn’t mind winning a blowout game when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday (1:05 p.m. PT/4:05 p.m. ET, FOX, DIrecTV) in a Week 9 game.

The Buccaneers’ fortunes are tied to the performance of quarterback Jameis Winston. Their record (2-5) reveals that Winston has produced far more “down” than “up” performances in 2019. Winston threw a combined seven interceptions in his past two games, but losses. Winston has thrown 12 interceptions this season, tied for the league lead (Baker Mayfield).

Russell Wilson looks to keep the Seahawks in the NFC West race and further burnish his MVP credentials Sunday when Seattle hosts the Buccaneers.

Who’s Playing

Seattle (home) vs. Tampa Bay (away)

Current Records: Seattle 6-2; Tampa Bay 2-5

What to Know

Seattle will be playing at home against Tampa Bay at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday. Seattle will be seeking to avenge the 14-5 loss they suffered the last time these two teams played Nov. 27 of 2016.

The Seahawks were able to grind out a solid win over Atlanta last week, winning 27-20. The team accrued the bulk of their points in the first half (24) and coasted on those for the victory.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay didn’t finish too far behind, but the squad still lost 27-23 to Tennessee. Tampa Bay’s loss came about despite a quality game from WR Mike Evans, who caught 11 passes for 198 yards and two TDs. QB Jameis Winston’s longest connection was to Evans for 46 yards in the second quarter. Evans has never finished with more yards this season.

Seattle is the favorite in this one, with an expected 4.5-point margin of victory. They may be expected to win, but bettors beware: they are only 1-5 against the spread when favored.

Seattle’s victory lifted them to 6-2 while Tampa Bay’s defeat dropped them down to 2-5. Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Seattle enters the contest with only one interception, good for best in the NFL. On the other end of the spectrum, Tampa Bay are stumbling into the game with the third most interceptions in the league, having thrown 12 on the season. Their sloppiness could come back to bite them.

While most of the MVP talk at the quarterback position has centered around Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers, Wilson is quietly putting together an impressive resume. He has thrown for 2,127 yards and 17 touchdowns against only one interception while completing 68.4% of his passes. In nearly every category, he’s on pace for career bests.

Wilson was effective early in Seattle’s 27–20 win at Atlanta last Sunday, throwing a pair of first-half touchdown passes to rookie DK Metcalf and finishing 14 of 20 for 182 yards. Metcalf continues to be a growing piece of the offensive puzzle for the Seahawks (6–2) with 23 catches for 402 yards and is one of three players with four receiving touchdowns.

Chris Carson continues to power the ground game, picking up 90 yards vs. Falcons, and ranks fifth in the league with 659. He has also already set a career-high with 22 receptions.

Tampa Bay (2–5) has fallen off the pace in the NFC South with three straight losses due to a combination of turnovers and shaky defense. The Buccaneers had four turnovers–all by Jameis Winston on a pair of interceptions and two fumbles–and had their secondary roasted for three touchdown passes in a 27–23 loss at Tennessee last Sunday.

Series History

Tampa Bay won the only game these two teams have played in the last five years.

Nov 27, 2016 – Tampa Bay 14 vs. Seattle 5

The Seattle Seahawks were reportedly the only team to place a waiver claim for wide receiver Josh Gordon following his release from the New England Patriots’ injured reserve list Thursday.

Ian Rapoport reported the update Saturday. The Seahawks announced the acquisition of Gordon via the waiver process Friday.

The 28-year-old Houston native recorded 20 catches for 287 yards and one touchdown across six appearances for the Pats after being reinstated by the NFL when his latest indefinite suspension under the league’s substance-abuse policy was lifted in August.

Gordon was the breakout sensation of the 2013 season with the Cleveland Browns, where he recorded 87 receptions for an NFL-best 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in just 14 games. He’s never been able to replicate that production, however, in large part because of injuries and off-field problems that led to his departure from Cleveland.

Melbourne Cup Live

Melbourne Cup Live:Ten has revealed its list of major sponsors for its first broadcast of the Melbourne Cup since winnning the rights to the annual racing event earlier this year.

The likes of Lexus, Zyrtec, Myer, Harvey Norman, TAB, Kennedy and G.H. Mumm will all take on various on and off-track sponsorship packages.

Lexus will join as broadcast and digital partner of the Carnival, and the principal partner of the 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup.

Zyrtec acts as the weather and Fast Finisher sponsor of Ten’s broadcast and digital coverage, while Myer takes a broadcast sponsorship and live streaming partner of Myer Fashions on the Field on 10 Daily and 10 Play.

Harvey Norman will sponsor the Jockey’s Lounge which will, for the first time ever, take punters into the inner sanctum of race preparations.

TAB will take on the role offficial wagering partner for 10’s broadcast and digital coverage of the Carnival, Kennedy as timekeeper of Ten’s coverage and G.H. Mumm as the official champagne of Melbourne Cup Carnival and sponsor of 10’s digital coverage.

Our approach to the Carnival was all about delivering multi-platform opportunities that give advertisers access to all areas of the Carnival,” Network Ten national sales director Lisa Squillace says.

Aidan O’Brien has simultaneously strengthened an already formidable Melbourne Cup hand and vindicated Cox Plate officials with Hunting Horn’s emphatic Moonee Valley Gold Cup success.

The big talking point in the horse racing world this week has been Racing NSW CEO Peter V’landys claiming that the Melbourne Cup should be moved to make room for more racing in the Spring Carnival.

‘The race that stops the nation’ has been in existence since 1861 and has historically been held on the first Tuesday of November each year – but is it time for a change?

That’s what V’landys believes, but it is perhaps a little deeper than the bold statement according to trainer, expert and media personality Richard Freedman.

Peter believes people want to go to racing in the Spring, and it doesn’t matter if you live in any state – they want to do their racing in the Spring,” he said on Channel 9′ on Sunday.

“NSW has traditionally been in the Autumn, but it doesn’t work for them really. He wants to discuss how we lay out the Spring because we aren’t going to just let Victoria have it.

So if he does this by saying ‘you should consider moving the Melbourne Cup’ he knows it is going to get the conversation started.

If you go down there with a technical argument, nobody will take any notice

Melbourne Cup

Melbourne Cup:Champion jockey Glen Boss’s dream of a fourth Melbourne Cup on favourite Constantinople has been shattered after he has hit with a six-meeting careless riding suspension at Royal Randwick yesterday

Boss rode Attention Run in the City Tattersalls Cup when he switched inside horses at the top of the straight, causing interference to Re Edit.

He pleaded guilty to the charge before Racing NSW stewards and was given a six-meeting suspension to commence on November 3. He is not due to resume riding until November 16.

From the fashion, to the celebrities, to the jockeys, and of course the races – audiences will be able to access all areas of the Melbourne Cup Carnival live and free on 10, all of our platforms and on social, and engage in a complete Melbourne Cup Carnival experience.”

Network 10’s national sales director, Lisa Squillace said: “Our approach to the Carnival was all about delivering multi-platform opportunities that give advertisers access to all areas of the Carnival.

Our teams developed a number of incredible advertiser-friendly ‘firsts’ for our Carnival coverage including a Jockey’s Lounge and a live fashion stream on 10 Daily.

Advertisers have been really receptive to our vision and plans and we’re pumped to be working with so many partners to bring the Carnival to life.”

Network 10’s national sport director, Nisar Malik added: “We’re really excited to be partnering with existing Melbourne Cup Carnival sponsors such as Lexus, Myer, G.H. Mumm and Kennedy to expand their Carnival sponsorship to broadcast and digital.

It’s also fantastic to be collaborating with sponsors like ZYRTECR, Harvey Norman and TAB to integrate across our coverage, platforms and assets. It’s going to be a huge week and we can’t wait to get into it.”

Another canny international purchase by Jamie Lovett and the crew at Australian Bloodstock could secure them a $500,000 bonus after Chief Ironside’s stirring win in the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley.

Winless since 2018, the northern hemisphere four-year-old was purchased along with Cox Plate flop Danceteria and sent to French trainer David Menuisier, who trains in England.

Under Irish jockey Jamie Spencer Chief Ironside gobbled up Cliffs Edge and Best of Days with a storming late surge to leave Menuisier and connections “over the moon”.

The boys, brought the horse about two and a half months ago and for you to come here in Australia, we found that we could improve the horse on his previous form and I think that is what we did,” he said.

A failure in the Toorak Handicap last start, where Chief ironside finished 13th, wasn’t a true indication of his ability according to jockey Jamie Spencer, who reunited with him having ridden the horse at his last start in England in July.
